"The Air Pollution Handbook brings together in readily available form useful information on the major aspects of the problem of air pollution. Such a book seems necessary in view of the increasing importance of air pollution, both as a field for scientific investigation and as a factor in our daily lives. The trend toward urbanization and greater industrial concentration has led, among other things, to congestion in residential areas and heavier use of city highways. These, in turn, have resulted in more severe and more widespread contamination of our atmosphere. Where man is, there pollution is. Where- ever man’s life processes, both individual and societal, pour wastes into a smallarea, serious contamination results. If the trend continues, moreover, the problem of air pollution is likely to become even more drastic in the future."
