The study examines how human activities affected the prolonged heavy rainfall in southern China during May to June 2022. Using CMIP6 climate models, it found that aerosols from human activities reduced the chance of long-lasting heavy rainfall by about 45 percent, while greenhouse gases slightly increased short-term rainfall intensity. The persistent rainfall in 2022 was therefore mainly influenced by natural variability rather than human-induced factors.
