"The potential health implications of climate change were first addressed by WHO in 1990 with the publication of a short document. Potential health effects ofclimate change (WHO/PEP/90.10), prepared with assistance from WMO. The assessment presented in this book was initiated after consultations that took place in 1993 between representatives of WHO, WMO and UNEP, several lead authors of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and staff of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). These consultations revealed an urgent need for a broader study, based on IPCC’s newer scenarios and predictions."
