Concern about the atmosphere and climate is not new it has been around a long time. It came into fpcus when a hole in the atmosphere was discovered over the Antarctica in the mid-1980s. This led to formation of an intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change-a group of experts to examine the scientific facts of the phenomenon. The United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change was formed in 1992.The real problem started when specific targets were set for different countries in the Kyoto Protocol and the United States bolted. This book presents the Kyoto Protocol: Five Years and Beyond. It discusses the impact of implementation of the Kyoto with or without the US, and the implications for policies in some countries.The approach is unique, combining the impact of climate change with that of policies for implementation ofthe Kyoto Protocol.
