During the period 17 September to 17 October 1969, a Soviet delegation composed of N. I. Vul’fson, 1.1. Gaivoronskii, B. I. Kiziriya, V. P. Lominadze, Yu. S. Sedunov and G. K. Sulakvelidze got acquainted with the organization and results of cloud physics and weather modification research at several scientific institutions of the U. S. A. In the final stage the delegation was joined by E. K. Fedorov, head of the Main Administration of the USSR Hydro- meteorological Service. The delegation visited the University of Chicago, the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences at Rapid City (S. Dakota), the Forest- Fire Control Laboratory at Missoula, Wyoming University at Laramie, the ESSA Laboratory and the National Center for Atmospheric Research at Boulder, Colorado State University at Fort Collins, the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation at Denver, the Desert Research Institute at Reno, the Institute of Atmospheric Physics at Tucson, the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) at Norman, the National Hurricane Research Laboratory at Miami, and the ESSA Administration at Washington. In spite of the fairly long duration of the mission, the heavy daily program and the narrow field of our specialization, we did not manage to get thoroughly acquainted with all trends of American research on weather modification. Nevertheless, we learned a lot, were given interesting scientific accounts and, which is most important, were able to appreciate the general level of research, its present State and development, the technical equipment and organization. We obtained sufficiently detailed Information on some prob- lems, and in a few cases were even able to participate in scientific discussions.
