The DAWN (Dashboard for Agricultural Water use and Nutrient management) project, funded by the USDA, was developed by a transdisciplinary team to help U.S. Corn Belt farmers manage the huge challenges posed by climate change and increasingly erratic weather patterns. DAWN's primary goal is to provide credible, usable predictive information by making subseasonal-to-seasonal forecasts accessible through an integrated decision support system. The project focuses on four main objectives: stakeholder coproduction of the system, building a coupled modeling system to transfer holistic knowledge, producing reliable forecasts for optimizing crop productivity and environmental quality, and integrating research with extension and education. The project's framework seeks to bridge science and service despite facing key implementation challenges in infrastructure development, establishing trust with stakeholders, product design, and effective communication.
