This volume completes the two-volume set of the InternationalHandbook of Earthquake and Engineering Seismology, with 34 chapters, numerous appendices, and two additionaCD-ROMs.Section VII features eight chapters on strong motion seismology.Section VIII includes seven chapters on earthquake engineering.Section IX presents seven chapters on earthquake predictionand hazards mitigation. Section X contains three chapters(consisting of 84 sub-chapters) of summarized national, institutional, and international reports to the International Associatioof Seismology and Physics of Earth’s Interior (IASPEI) and theInternational Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE).Section XI includes detailed descriptions of earthquake seismologysoftware. The four appendices feature a glossary of seismologicalterms, key formulae, biographical sketches, and a user’smanual for each of the three CD-ROMs. The two compact discsincluded with Part B include supplementary materials to chapterin this volume, as well as unabridged national and internationalreports. Each CD includes a convenient “StartJHere”file listing the complete contents, and tips to facilitate theirutility.Together, the three CDs included in the Handbook constitutea digital library of selected earthquake literature and data, th scanned images of more than 100 hard-to-find and out-of-printpublications.The accomplishments and history of 56 countries are detailedwithin the national reports. Collectively, they complement thetopical reviews printed in the first 78 chapters of the Handbook. The Handbook’s digital library also features a unique collectioof more than 2,100 biographical sketches of earthquake scientistsand engineers.Additional features of the Handbook include a global inventoryof seismographic networks, a collection of useful earthquakeseismology software, an extensive glossary of seismologicaland earthquake engineering terms, key formulae employedin earthquake seismology, detailed biographies of selected scientistsand engineers, and an extensive collection of seismibulletins and reports published prior to 1920.The Handbook was completed with the efforts of some twothousand volunteers over an eight-year period. We hope that thislong-awaited Handbook presents a useful summary of the statusand accomplishments in earthquake and e
