ENGINEERING HYDROLOGY

The first edition, which received very encouraging response from the users, was thoroughly reviewed to identify the areas requiring modifications or additions to enhance the usefulness of the book to a wide range of user interests. Based upon this review, this revised edition has been brought out to meet adequately the need of a text on Engineering Hydrology tuned to the Indian environment.The significant additions in the present edition are: Water budget equation, (Sec. 1.3); World water balance, (Sec. 1.4); Rainfall data in India, (Sec. 2.14); Droughts, (Sec. 5.8); Risk, Reliability and Safety factor, (Sec. 7.13); Nash’s conceptual mode, (Sec. 8.9); Unconfined groundwater flow by Dupit’s assumptions, (Sec. 9.6(b)); and Groundwater resources, (Sec. 9.12).Further, in each chapter additional explanatory material and examples etc., have been incorporated. Also, a set of questions under the title Revision Questions has been included at the end of each chapter as an aid to effective study of the subject matter. The sets of problems and questions given at the end of each chapter have been suitably enlarged to cover newer topics and to include interesting problems.Statistical data such as those of world water balance and water resources of India have been updated. A list of additional references has been incorporated at the end of the book as Appendix - A. This list is particularly advantageous for those who would like additional information on various topics. Certain errors located in the earlier edition have been eliminated. With the new and modern format, it is hoped that the second edition will continue to receive the encouraging response from the users.Comments for further improvement of the book would be appreciated.
