This second edition of the Geological Map of Asia and the Far East has been prepared under the sponsorship of the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (ECAFE) in consultation with the Commission for the Geological Map of the World and Unesco. Since the publication of the first edition of this map in 1961, much more systematic geological mapping has been carried out in most countries of the region and new national maps have been compiled. At the sixth session of the ECAFE Working Party of Senior Geologists held at Bangkok in 1966, it was decided that a second revised edition be published and the offer of the Director-General of the Geological Survey of India to act as co-ordinator for the task of revision was accepted.
