Hardly anybody disagrees that the weather is a critical factor in crop production in Indonesia. Opinions differ, however, on the strategies and tactfcs. to harness^the-weather. The situation partly arises from an- apparent-overwhelming complexity of-the nature and magnitude of the role of the weather as well as from strong discipli- nary orientation to solve the problem. As stated by the Junior Minis ter for Increased Food Production, H.E. Ir. Wardojo, in his opening address to the Workshop, an integrated engineering, meteorological, and agricultural approach is necessary but priorities have to be set for the respective-solutions to succeed. ‘ This Workshop attempted to clarify the situation and recommended practical measures which farmers .can implement. Promising agrometeorologica1 solutions which need further applied research were also identified.
