This book discusses seismic modeling of the Earth's crust, especially through deep seismic sounding. It explains absolute measurement of seismic signal amplitudes, velocity cross-section modeling, computer-based interpretation, deterministic and random models of the crust, wave propagation, microseisms, noise, and the limits of seismic sounding. The work is based largely on experimental data from Pacific deep seismic sounding studies conducted by the Institute of the Physics of the Earth, Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
