"This book is a companion volume to A course in elementary meteorology * and although it is written primarily for professional meteorologists, there is little in it that should repel the general reader with an interest in weather maps. A knowledge of elementary meteorology, such as is contained in A course in elementary meteorology, is assumed, for as far as possible any repetition of material from that book has been avoided. Armed with this and some slight acquaintance with the symbols listed in Section 1.1.2, only the more technical parts of Chapter 6 are likely to prove difficult. If, in that chapter, further explanation is required on the tephigram and its use, this can be found in any standard textbook of theoretical meteorology."
